Ousman Gomez

The Gambia
Ousman Gomez is an M.A. Candidate in Peace Studies. He graduated with a Bachelors in Law (LLB Hons) from the University of The Gambia, a Barrister in Law degree (BL) from The Gambia Law School, and a Master of Art and Science of Warfare from National Defence University, Pakistan.
Ousman is also a graduate of Army Combat Training School, Ghana, Armed Forces Command and Staff College (AFCSC) Jaji, Nigeria, and Command and Staff College (CSC), Quetta, Pakistan. Ousman is a Commissioned Officer in The Gambia Armed Forces and has been working for over twenty years.
Ousman has held various positions in The Gambia Armed Forces, from platoon commander to battalion commander and other staff appointments. As a Lawyer, he served in various Court Martials or military courts, the Attorney General Chambers, and the Ministry of Justice in The Gambia.
Ousman spent many years with the International peacekeeping missions such as the United Nations Mission in Liberia (UNMIL 2003-2004), African Union Mission in Sudan-Darfur Region (AMIS 2004-2005 and 2007) respectively, and United Nations and African Union Hybrid Mission in Darfur (UNAMID 2010) as well as the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) Standby Force exercise in Burkina Faso 2010.
Ousman possesses a comprehensive knowledge in military, security, legal matters and a wealth of experience in Peace Support Operations in Africa. His academic areas of interest are International Relations, International Humanitarian Law, Human Rights Law and conflict and reconciliation. His research interests include refugees and stateless people.
